Jorge rescues a Booby!

Booby
recovers from lead poisoning at the Blue Ocean Reef rescue
facility
On
November 1st 2007 Captain Jorge found a sick Red-Footed
Booby squatting on the beach during one of his beach patrols.
He brought it to the office, and presented it to James who
then tried to arrange transport for the poorly bird to Dr.
Baird Fleming, a vet working for Blue Ocean Reef in French
Harbour. After realising that neither he nor Dr. Fleming had
a car available to them, James took the bird on the bus to
the vetinary surgery. After a bumpy trip through the rough
back streets of the poorest areas of western Roatan, the bedraggled
avian made it to the vet, and was diagnosed with possible
lead poisoning. He is now recovering at the Blue Ocean Reef
rescue facility (in picture), with the hope that he will be
released promptly. If he fails to fly again, he will live
out the rest of his days peacefully there. Birds are often
the first indicators of contamination in water courses.
